Introducing Janet Richmond…
Janet has over 35 years of experience working as an Occupational Therapist in general hospitals, educational support services, private paediatric practice, remedial schools and specialist schools (including hard of hearing and multiple disability). She lectured at Edith Cowan University for 12 years in paediatrics, health conditions, research, and other units. Janet is fluent in both English and Afrikaans.
Janet received her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and BOT (Honours) from Pretoria University in South Africa. She has always had a deep passion for working with children and worked as an Occupational Therapist in the South African Defence Force for five years prior to moving into full time paediatric work in a school for children with learning difficulty.
Janet later completed her Master of Occupational Therapy at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. In 2004 Janet relocated to Australia with her family. Her love for researching evidence-based interventions continued and led to the completion of a Doctor of Philosophy from Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. She continues to be interested in research in visual perception and its relation to learning challenges.
Janet’s special interest is working with children and teens who have difficulty learning or who have different learning needs. She is also interested in a variety of craft activities, such as, sewing, baking, woodwork, clay modelling, gardening and being outdoors. She uses these varied interests to make therapy as fun and interactive as possible.
